Luke Tanner - WBC Coach
After playing badminton as a Junior International representing Wales and as a Junior and Senior County Representative, in 1998 Luke took 10 years out of badminton. Since returning to badminton in 2008 he has reasonable success as a player, playing in international Tournaments, but has found that his true passion lies in coaching and has concentrated his efforts into developing himself as a coach.
Since starting coaching in 2008 Luke has coached a varying age range and standard of player and has worked with some top coaches. Luke started off coaching at junior club level in North East Wales and progressed to Head Coach of the North East Wales Badminton Association County Squads. He has also spent part of his time coaching with the Auckland Badminton Association and the Badminton Association of Western Australia.
Luke has also worked for Badminton Wales as a Badminton Development Co-ordinator to further help the development of badminton in the North East Wales area, by tutoring Coaching Badminton Workshops and Badminton Leaders Awards, coaching in primary and secondary schools and development programmes. Luke has also been involved with organising and running events including Top Schools Competitions and 5x60 Competitions.
Luke is currently Lead coach of Badminton Wales High Performance and Regional Academy Squads in North Wales and continues to help players progress through 1-2-1 coaching.
Luke currently holds a UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification, UKSCA Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coaching Qualification and is a BWF Shuttle Time Tutor. He also has a BSC Honours Degree in Sport and Exercise Science.
