Looking to develop a strong volunteer base to deliver badminton across North East Wales, Badminton Wales along with WBC Coach Luke Tanner organised for the BWF Shuttle Time Teachers Course to be delivered to sport students at Coleg Cambria, which is one of the largest Colleges in the UK. A total of four Shuttle Time Courses were arranged in the third week of December across the Wrexham and Deeside campuses.
Unfortunately, due to heavy snowfall over the weekend, it was decided that the first course had to be cancelled, but the other three were able to go ahead once the snow had cleared.
Over the three course, a total of 46 students took part, where they learnt not only how to deliver badminton sessions to children using the Shuttle Time resources, but also valuable coaching tips to build their confidence and knowledge prior to going out to deliver badminton sessions across the region.
Tutor Luke Tanner commented, "Considering a lot of the students had little or no experience of coaching let alone coaching badminton, the hard work and enthusiasm they put into the exercises they were asked to deliver as part of the course, was second to none. I would be very happy to have all of the students who participated on the course to go out and represent our sport, when delivering Shuttle Time to children in the local community."
Hopefully the cancelled course can be rearranged for January 2018 and an ongoing relationship with Coleg Cambria can be developed to deliver Shuttle Time to future sport students on an annual basis.
